In line with the strategic future vision for Chelmsford Garden Community, to create an effective, easy to use and truly local directory for our growing community where all businesses & trades (no matter how big or small) can be found quickly and easily by members of the community.

There is a long term vision for Chelmsford Garden Community which includes an aspiration that it can be a truly sustainable local economy. This means we will all live, work and enjoy the community by supporting each other living and working within it.
There are always loads of Facebook and NextDoor posts asking if there is a local cleaner, gardener, electrician etc and whilst businesses do post in some of the local groups, they just get lost in the many hundreds of other posts and finding information in this way is never quick and easy. Despite some of the area being well established, I still get stopped and asked where Sainsburys is, or even where the Channels Brasserie is (and that’s by people living on Channels!) and having a well categorised, searchable directory would seem to be the perfect way of everyone knowing where to go to use and support local trades & businesses.
Let’s be honest, a directory listing is not a new idea by any means but I want to create one that includes all local businesses and services (however big or small) that fall within the new Chelmsford Garden Community.
The longer term model will be that businesses pay a nominal ongoing fee for inclusion in the directory to help cover running costs with an option to pay extra for specific prominent promotions (or whatever packages are offered) so again, it’s nothing that hasn’t been done before but it feels the right time for something specific to Chelmsford Garden Community that can grow with us over the coming years.
The plan is to launch the directory in a more basic form during which time a suitable site will be developed and a suite of packages considered to ensure that all running costs can be covered. Keep an eye on updates!
As the tagline says, explore local businesses and help our garden grow!
